Preschool-Grade 2 This beautifully designed and illustrated story is narrated by a bus that traverses the Colombian Andes region. La Chiva cheerfully transports farmers and vendors from villages and towns so they can sell their wares, such as prepared foods or farm-grown fruits and vegetables. The personification of the bus adds the perfect touch of fun and whimsy, coupled with the Mary Blair-like paintings lovingly created by G�mez. The story goes on in rhyme to describe the scenic drive as the bus picks up villagers going to market, and even a small setback on the way, until they reach their destination. La Chiva describes the market, how the villagers and other people work together, and the beauty of the sunset as they drive back home. This picture book is a great read-along and even contains a short glossary in the back, in case readers are not familiar with some of the terms for foods or other regional words. This book has been translated into Spanish and adapted in rhyme, making it a delight in both languages, seeing as all the book's creators are Colombian.
