WHAT MAKES A PERSON GODLY? // Scripture tells us that God has given us "everything we need for life and godliness." But what makes a Christian godly? In this book, Jerry Bridges examines what it means to grow in Christian character and helps us establish the foundation upon which that character is built. Bridges opens our eyes to see how character formation affects the way we relate to God, to ourselves, and to others. // In order to live godly lives, we need an inward foundation of God-centeredness. This book will help you establish that foundation and then build an outward structure of God-likeness

While Lloyd James's delivery is always clear and easy to follow, in the end it doesn't do what the argument in THE PRACTICE OF GODLINESS needs it to do. Jerry Bridges tackles a difficult subject in this book, and he's willing to judge many Christian practices harshly. These sections need to be filled with a passion that rises above cool reason, and they aren't. Likewise, Bridges at times illustrates his points with stories from his own experience. While the descriptions of his realizations are filled with humility, James does not sound particularly moved. Here too he remains clear and crisp, and, therefore, too emotionally distant from the text. G.T.B. (c) AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine
