Visit a dozing polar bear on an ice floe; a lion in pajamas brushing his teeth; tired giraffes resting their sleepy heads on clouds; a whale singing a soft, beautiful song; a whispering elephant; a yawning hippo; a toucan counting sheep; and finally, the sheep themselves, who are waiting for the end of the story. Time to sleep now. It is late.

Toddler-PreS-In this whimsical picture book, animals are preparing for bedtime by doing a variety of nighttime activities. Simple, yet powerful sentences help set the scene. The book opens with a young boy in bed surrounded by a variety of stuffed animals. As night falls and things quiet down, the melodic text describes the animals doing many of the things that a child would do while preparing for bed. For example, a lion brushes all of his teeth and a toucan counts sheep. Throughout, bold primary colors imbue the vivid and eye-catching illustrations. A cartoon art style illustrates large animal characters, crafted with combinations of geometric and tubular shapes. The peaceful and relaxing tone paired with simple yet beautiful illustrations makes this book truly one of a kind. VERDICT A great bedtime read that will be enjoyed again and again.-Deanna Smith, Pender County Public Library, NC
