POWERED BY PERVERSITY • Despite suffering dehydration, delirium, dysentery, dengue fever and debilitating crashes, Jeff Munro was the first motorcyclist to complete a full lap of Australia.
For the Record
TWO FACES HAVE I • Rarely does a model combine sublime road manners with race track prowess. One such is the GPz900, which dominated Australian Production Racing for a period in the ‘eighties, and is today a sought-after classic.

One-year wonder • Sunbeams are motorcycles unlike the others, and that’s as true about the High-Camshaft B-series bikes built by the Collier brothers’ AMC/Associated Motor Cycles concern during the Wolverhampton-derived marque’s brief sojourn in Southeast London between 1937 and 1943. Three of these years formed the first half of WW2, so AMC deserves some credit for what it achieved in the short time available to it.
An Italian frame up • No, Motoplast is not a special adhesive bandage for motorcycle injuries such as severe gravel rash. From Soncino, a province of Cremona in the Italian region of Lombardy, 60 kilometres east of Milan, Motoplast was a short-lived creation from the brothers Virginio and Gianfranco Stanga.

All that glitters… • When the very first Earls Court Motorcycle Exhibition in London was announced for September 1937, it was as if to broadcast that the austerity of the ‘thirties, which had begun with the Great Depression, was a thing of the past. Not that outrageous opulence was the official theme, but there was definitely an air of optimism and a touch of flamboyance here and there.
Return of the Meteor • With Royal Enfield celebrating 120 years of continuous manufacturing this year, it is entirely appropriate for the company to introduce its latest offering, the Meteor 350. This model follows on from the very successful 650cc Interceptor and Continental. They also introduced the rugged Himalayan adventure bike to break into that lucrative adventure touring market. Now, add this learner approved 350cc Meteor to the fold.
More please! • It’s hard to believe the MT-09 is eight years...
