Buy a brick in the wall • The brand new 2.7km DriveIt NQ Circuit 40km south of Townsville saw action, albeit limited, over the weekend of May 13/24 with about 300 vehicles permitted to do slow laps in a “track conditioning exercise to help get some rubber down in preparation for racing”.

Buzz Box Under the Chequered Flag

NEVER A DULL MOMENT • Sidecar swinger, solo star, superbike salesman and serial sponsor. Paul Feeney has spent a lifetime at the serious end of motorsport.

A French resistance • Hobart resident Jeff Frankcombe is constantly unearthing traces of Tasmania’s motorcycling heritage, and the latest one is quite remarkable – a 1908 Peugeot that has had just two owners from new and despite a rough life, has refused to die.

BREEZIN’ ALONG WITH THE BREEZE • When did Retro kick in? In the smaller Japanese bikes, look back to the SR500 Yamaha (1978) or the GB500 Honda (1985) for styling that was deliberately evocative of the Great British Rule. But further up the scale, there is a strong case for the Kawasaki Zephyr as the first such retro in the heavyweight ranks.

The perfect gift for THE ULTIMATE GARDENER! • TREAT A FRIEND OR SPOIL YOURSELF AND ENSURE YOU NEVER MISS AN ISSUE OF YOUR FAVOURITE GARDENING MAGS!

Mighty Mammoth A memory of the seventies • Who can’t remember it? In your youth dreaming of mighty motorbikes, completely out of your reach because you were far too young for a driving licence. Two-wheelers from exotic European brands such as MV Agusta, Hesketh or Van Veen made a big impression.
